We are moth sanctuary productions

Moth Sanctuary Productions is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary theatre company based in Cheltenham.

We performed our first show at the inaugural Cheltenham Literature Festival Lit Crawl in 2016 with ‘Edgar Allan Poe: Master of the Macabre’ – an immersive adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’ which took place in a graveyard.

With the goal of injecting new life into familiar stories, giving them new meaning by altering the themes, we became known for creating unique theatrical adaptations of classic works of literature, performing ‘She Plucked, She Ate’ – a physical theatre adaptation of Milton’s Paradise Lost in 2017; ‘Frankenstein: New Skin’ – a gender-swapped version of Mary Shelley’s classic in 2018; and a dramatised reading of Angela Carter’s ‘The Company of Wolves’ in 2019.

We received a commission from the Everyman Theatre in 2020 to create our first full-length piece – ‘Usher: The Unbroken Line’ – which is currently in development.

When lockdown hit in 2020, we created our podcast series of original horror stories – ‘Penny Dreadfuls from the Moth Sanctuary’ – with Season Two being released in October 2021.

Moth Sanctuary Productions was chosen to represent Cheltenham Literature Festival on the global stage as part of Lit Crawl Global 2020 with our live-streamed performance ‘Deep in Earth’ – a dramatised reading of the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe interspersed with original monologues.

Then in 2021, we wrote, developed and performed our first show comprised entirely of original writing, ‘Dr Sandy’s Gallery of Stories’.
